  Brief information about Bulgaria

  Situated in Southeastern Europe, Bulgaria occupies the northeastern part of the Balkan Peninsula. The country’s total territory is 111,000 sq. km. It has a 378 km borderline with the Black Sea to the east. Bulgaria also neighbors Macedonia and Serbia and Montenegro to the west, Romania to the north and Greece and Turkey to the south.

  Bulgaria possesses a varied relief, in the altitude range from 0 to 2,925 m. Its territory includes part of the lower Danube Plain, The Balkan Range – part of the Alpine-and-Himalayan chain, part of the Thracian lowland and to the south – the mountain structures of the Macedonian-Thracian massif. The predominant climate in Bulgaria is moderate and transitional continental with plenty of sunlight days per year. There are four seasons, with warm summer and snowy winter. The average yearly temperature is 10.5 °C.

  The Bulgarian mountains which occupy half of the country’s territory, are easily accessible, and are a prime destination for both winter and summer tourist activities, including skiing, hiking, fishing, canoeing. The major mountain ranges are Rila, Pirin, Rhodope and Stara Planina. Mussala peak in the Rila mountain range is the highest point on the Balkan peninsula.

  Much of the Black sea coast is covered by long beaches with fine white sand. The sea itself is non-tidal, less salty and warmer than the Mediterranean. The tourism sector has flourished in recent years and holds a firm lead in the Bulgarian economy.

  Climate

  You can enjoy FOUR LOVELY AND TENDER SEASONS in Bulgaria. Beautiful blooming spring, dry and hot summer, long and pleasant autumn, and mild winter with lots of opportunity for skiing. Always lit by the sun Bulgaria has between 2200 and 2500 hours of sunlight per year. Average temperature (April - September): + 23 °C. The average yearly temperature is 14.7 °C. The climate in Northern Bulgaria is moderate continental, while the climate in Southern Bulgaria is intermediate continental tending to Mediterranean. The climate in the regions with an altitude of 1900-2000 m above sea level is mountainous and along the Black Sea coast it is maritime.
 
  Winter resorts

  The newest Bulgarian winter resort, recently discovered by the foreign tourists. Bansko provides an interesting combination between the virgin nature of Pirin Mountain and the atmosphere of the ancient Bulgarian small town. Bansko ski resort is situated in Southwestern Bulgaria, at the foothills of one of the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains - Pirin, which is a national preserve, included in the WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE list. The distance from Sofia to Bansko is 160 km.

  The skiing conditions in Bansko are excellent. The Pirin mountain has a predonantly Alpine charachter with three peaks towering above 2900 m. However the slopes offer runs and tracks for all types of skiers, from novice to the experts, while the ski runs are maintained in excellent condition. The town itself attracts visitors by its 120 cultural monuments, its museums houses, and the permanent ethnographic and Bansko schlool of icon painting exhibitions.




  Sunny Beach

  Sunny Beach is he biggest resort, with the longest and widest beach strip, with hotels spread along the beach and among the dunes, the sunniest resort for the sunniest people. This holiday address, destined by nature, lies only 35 km away north of the city of Bourgas.
